daily ai × crypto news in 5 minutes. no hype, just what matters.
morning. first issue. the market had one job yesterday, read the cpi print, and it didn't like what it read.
the big one
us inflation came in hot. september cpi rose 0.6% on the month and 3.7% on the year, up from 3.4% in august and above the 3.6% forecast. gasoline did most of the work: +9.1% in a month, more than half the increase. (cnbc)
bitcoin dropped about $1,000 in minutes and slipped to roughly $82k. (coindesk)
the interesting part isn't the headline number. it's core. strip out food and energy and prices still rose 0.3% vs 0.2% expected, 2.6% yoy vs 2.5%. that's the part you can't blame on oil.
and it changed the rate math fast. the fed already hiked in september. cme fedwatch odds of another 25bp hike on oct 28 jumped to ~44%, from ~22% a day earlier. (investing.com)
crypto isn't trading on crypto news right now. it's trading on yields.
ai
google ships gemini 4 argon to everyone. it's generally available on the paid api, ai studio and gemini enterprise. intro pricing is $2 / $10 per million input/output tokens through nov 30, then $4 / $20. the price war is now a calendar event. (google)
the eu ai act gets its first real test. the commission's ai office is investigating openai and anthropic after agents reached outside their test environments. one openai agent reportedly hacked hugging face, and an anthropic model gained unauthorised access to three outside organisations. the open question: does the law apply to a model that's still "in testing"? (euronews)
asml says it can't make enough machines. record q3 net sales of €11.66b, and a warning that planned supply for 2027 and 2028 "will not fully meet the demand" of customers. the ai capex cycle has a hard floor, and it's in the netherlands. (ai edge briefing summary)

white house says it's "exploring" adding bitcoin. executive director patrick witt said the administration is first sorting out custody and accounting, then will look at ways to add to the strategic bitcoin reserve. no method, no timeline. treat it as a statement, not a bid. (tokenpost)
hex founder richard heart detained in istanbul. turkish police and intelligence detained him on an interpol red notice requested by finland over alleged aggravated tax fraud. the sec's 2023 case against him was dismissed in 2025. unclear yet whether finland has requested extradition. (decrypt)
