morning. the biggest bank in america just put its dollars on ethereum, and on the very same day, wall street pulled more money out of ether funds. that's the big one. also: amazon wants your pytorch code off nvidia chips, nvidia answered with open models for agents, and blackrock's bitcoin fund pulled $665m in one session while bitcoin still slipped.

the big one

jpm coin is live on ethereum. it's a bank deposit, not a stablecoin. on monday, kinexys, jpmorgan's blockchain unit, brought jpm coin (ticker jpmd) to ethereum mainnet for its institutional clients. ethereum is its second public chain, after base, coinbase's layer 2, where it launched in november 2025. jpmorgan says ethereum's "established depth of onchain liquidity and tokenized assets" made it the natural next step. (jpmorgan, cointelegraph)

what it actually is: each jpmd is a claim on a real us dollar sitting in a jpmorgan account, a deposit token. that's different from a stablecoin like usdc, where a separate company holds reserves. clients can send and receive money in seconds, around the clock, instead of over several days in banking hours. the catch: it sits on a public chain, but only approved institutional participants can hold or move it. no retail. (bloomberg, cointelegraph)

the scale behind it: jpmorgan says its kinexys platform has processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions, averaging $7 billion a day (the bank's own internal data, not just jpmd). jpmorgan asset management already runs two tokenized money market funds on ethereum, launched last december and in may, and in january the bank said jpm coin is also headed to the canton network. (jpmorgan, the block, cointelegraph)

now the twist. on that same monday, us spot ether etfs lost $103.3m, their fourth straight session of outflows, and $95.4m of it came from blackrock's etha alone. ether traded near $2,385 on tuesday. we're not saying one caused the other. but it's a clean split: banks are adopting ethereum's rails, while traders still aren't sold on the coin. (coindesk, coindesk)

the takeaway: this is how "institutional adoption" really looks. it's not a bank buying eth. it's a bank using ethereum as plumbing for its own dollars, with a velvet rope around who gets in. like the qubic halt in yesterday's issue, it raises an old question: how public is a public chain when one party decides who can use it? more ethereum stories: ethereum.

amazon wants your pytorch code off nvidia chips, no rewrite needed. amazon's torchneuron lets existing pytorch code run on its trainium chips "with a single configuration change." amazon says 85% of ai researchers and developers write in pytorch, and nvidia has spent more than a decade on cuda, the software that makes that code run well on its gpus. torchneuron supports trainium2 and trainium3, is being open-sourced under apache 2.0 at pytorch conference on oct 20, and has 30+ early customers, per reuters. amazon shares rose 5% on monday morning. (amazon, reuters)

nvidia shipped open models built for agents. nemotron 3.5 super vl is a 120-billion-parameter open-weight model for enterprise ai agents; nvidia claims it beats opus 5 and gpt-6.1 sol on speed for some post-trained agent tasks (vendor claims). two smaller "bolt" models are meant to run locally on new rtx spark ai pcs: bolt 74b-a9b is out now, bolt e4b later this month. ai × crypto

world launched world id tools for banks, including id for ai agents. the sam altman-co-founded identity project bundled the world id app, world id for zoom (now generally available after an april beta) and world id for agents, which lets an agent show proof it acts for a verified human. design partners are openexchange, bain capital, vaneck funds and outtake. no bank customer or pricing was named. same day, mastercard unveiled stablecoin security, an api that scores stablecoin payments for fraud and sanctions risk before they move onchain; north america first, worldwide in 2027. crypto & markets

bitcoin etfs had their biggest day in nearly a month, and it was all blackrock. us spot bitcoin etfs took in $526.6m on monday, the most since sept 22. blackrock's ibit alone pulled in $665.2m, while fidelity's fbtc lost $83.6m and grayscale's gbtc $54.9m. that erased last week's $228.5m of withdrawals, but the funds are still about $90.5m in the red for october. etf flows are the best daily read on traditional money, and right now they say "one buyer." (coindesk)

bitcoin slipped anyway. btc dipped to about $81,400 on tuesday as south korea's kospi fell 3.73% to its lowest close since april 7, dragged by sk hynix and samsung on renewed ai-spending worries. on deribit, puts outtraded calls more than two to one, and the busiest contract was the oct 30 $80,000 put. traders are paying for downside protection. (coindesk)

tool of the day

e2e by testerarmy: an open-source (apache-2.0) typescript testing framework where you write test steps in plain language, an ai agent clicks through your web or ios/android app, and verified steps are cached and replayed with no model call, so reruns don't burn tokens. e2e explore scouts an app like a first-time user and reports bugs; it has an mcp server for cursor and claude code, and you bring your own model. free to use; ~11.5k github stars. the hosted testerarmy service starts at $99/mo. for devs shipping apps who hate fixing flaky tests. one thing to watch

the ether etf streak. four straight days of outflows while jpmorgan builds on ethereum. if money keeps leaving etha while banks keep shipping on the chain, the "rails vs coin" split becomes the story of the quarter. on the bitcoin side: does ibit keep buying alone, and does $80k hold into the oct 30 expiry?

that's the wire. the dollar is going onchain, just not for everyone yet. back tomorrow. — gweiwire
